A carbon dioxide (CO2cap C cap O sub 2����2) fire extinguisher is a fire extinguisher that uses compressed carbon dioxide gas to put out fires. It's used to put out class B (flammable liquids) and class C (electrical) fires.  How it works 

• The extinguisher releases carbon dioxide gas under high pressure.
• The carbon dioxide replaces the oxygen in the air, which suffocates the fire.
• The carbon dioxide also absorbs heat from the fire, cooling it down.

Safety 

• CO2cap C cap O sub 2����2 extinguishers have a bursting disc to safely release pressure. If the top of the extinguisher bursts, it can be a safety risk.
